A batch costs more than its ingredients.

There’s the flour you bought by the bag, the amount each recipe uses, the box it goes in and the time you spend making it.

Then a purchase price changes, and you need to check the recipes that use it before sending your next quote.

Bring those numbers into one connected workflow. The Home Baker Batch Pricing Kit keeps ingredient purchases and recipe quantities together, then shows batch costs and what remains at your chosen price.

From purchase pack
to price check.

Four steps. Your ingredients, your quantities, your costs.

  1. Open the sample. Make a working copy.

See the fictional example first, then start with the clean blank workbook.

  2. Save purchases and recipe quantities.

Enter pack sizes, units and prices once. Reuse ingredient records across recipes.

  3. Include the costs around the bake.

Add sellable yield, packaging, owner time, optional extra labour and other costs.

  4. Review the batch. Check your price.

See cost per batch and per item, owner compensation and the amount remaining at a chosen selling price.

Use it for a cookie batch, packaging and time for a cupcake order, or rechecking recipes when an ingredient price changes.

A fictional worked example

Follow the numbers.
See what remains.

Twelve sellable items. $1.50 entered cost per item.
A chosen selling price of $2.50 each.

Entered batch cost
$18
Batch revenue
$30
Remaining
$12

The $18 already includes one hour of owner time at $12. The remaining $12 is after the costs entered; it is not complete business net profit.

See how the $18 is calculated
Ingredient A: $8 / 2 kg × 500 g
$2.00
Ingredient B: $6 / 1 kg × 250 g
$1.50
Packaging
$1.00
Owner compensation: 1 hour × $12
$12.00
Other entered costs
$1.50
Total entered batch cost
$18.00

$18 ÷ 12 items = $1.50 cost per item.
12 × $2.50 = $30 revenue. $30 − $18 = $12 remaining.

Use a desktop or laptop

The supplied format is XLSX. Independent recalculation checks were completed in LibreOffice 26.2.6.3 on Windows. Microsoft Excel desktop and Google Sheets have not been tested. A phone is not the recommended workspace.

No macros, paid add-ins or external workbook links are required. You’ll also need ZIP extraction and a PDF reader. Editing the guide requires a DOCX editor; Microsoft Word and Google Docs have not been tested.

Work in supported units

g, kg, oz, lb, ml, L, fl oz (US) and each. Weight ounces and fluid ounces are different. Cups, teaspoons and tablespoons are unsupported; there is no automatic cups-to-grams conversion.

The default is USD. Use one currency throughout. Changing a displayed symbol does not convert amounts.

Use your own numbers and judgement

Results depend on the information entered. The workbook can check a chosen price and optionally calculate a target-margin price; it cannot choose the right selling price for every baker.

This kit does not provide food-safety, allergen, tax or legal-compliance advice. Formula protection helps prevent accidental edits; it is not security or copy protection.

A few practical answers.

What exactly is included?

Two XLSX workbooks: a clean blank copy and a filled fictional sample. You also get the setup guide in PDF and editable DOCX formats, plus Start_Here.txt, FAQ.txt and Customer_Use_Notice.txt.

Is this a subscription?

No. The kit is offered at $8 USD as a one-time purchase. This draft opens a checkout preview; payment and delivery are not connected.

Which spreadsheet software was tested?

The workbooks were independently recalculated in LibreOffice 26.2.6.3 on Windows. That is the tested desktop environment. The supplied spreadsheet format is XLSX.

Can I use Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets?

Microsoft Excel desktop and Google Sheets have not been tested. Import, recalculation, validation, protection and layout in those applications are unverified. Do not assume every feature will be preserved.

Can I use it on my phone?

A desktop or laptop is recommended because the workbook tables have several columns. The downloaded workbook is not advertised as optimized for phones.

How many ingredients and recipes can I enter?

Version 2.0 has prepared rows for 60 ingredients, 20 recipes and 200 recipe ingredient-use lines. You can reuse an ingredient across recipes. Expanding beyond these prepared limits is outside this version.

Does it convert cups to grams?

No. Cups, teaspoons and tablespoons are unsupported. Use an appropriate measured weight or volume for the specific ingredient. Supported units are g, kg, oz, lb, ml, L, fl oz (US) and each; weight oz and US fluid oz are different.

Does it include baking recipes?

The examples are fictional costing exercises. They are not tested baking recipes or recommended selling prices. Enter your own recipes and purchase information in your working copy.

Will it tell me what every baker should charge?

No. It compares a chosen selling price with the costs you enter and offers an optional target-margin calculation. Owner compensation is included as an entered cost. Remaining after entered costs is not complete business net profit.

Are quotes, order tracking or production planning included?

The $8 kit covers batch costing and price checks. The Bakery Quote and Menu Pack is a separate optional $6 purchase in the checkout preview. Its document amounts are edited manually and do not synchronize with the workbook. Order tracking and production planning are not included in the $8 kit.

May I use the files in my own bakery?

Yes. You may use, copy and edit the files for your own bakery operations. Keep an untouched backup of your download and review your first real calculation.

May I resell or redistribute the files?

No. You may not redistribute, give away, upload for others to download, sublicense or resell the reusable templates, including edited versions and samples. The purchase includes no PLR or master resale rights.
